HOLE
9/3/94 UIC Pavilion Show

Saturday was the NIN/Hole show. 50% of the people loved Hole, 50% hated them. One guy held up a shirt saying, "Hole Sucks! Love killed Kurt!" I wished I had pit tickets solely to beat the shit out of that guy. Here's what happened during their short, but awesome set. Courtney came on and said, "We screwed up. We were late. We were off doing private, personal things." Then she launched right into "Plump" She did this really sad intro to "Beautiful Son" [Now known as Never Go Away to bootleggers] singing things like "I'm dying, I need him." Then she did an extended verison of "Asking For It" repeating the live through this line over and over getting angrier each time. She also changed a line in "Miss World" to "I am the girl you know, the one who should have died." It was an incredibly sad and beautiful performance. She then said, "By the way, we're Hole, as in asshole" and played  "Jennifer's Body" and "Gutless." Then the guitar problems were really pissing Courtney off. [Note: the next show she did at this venue she made a guitar tech stay on stage the entire time to keep the sound perfect.] She closed with a solo, angry "Where Did You Sleep Last Night," emphasizing the ending line "...where the sun doesn't EVER SHINE, I shivered the whole night through.  Then she smashed her guitar and flung herself into the crowd. Security fished her out, but the crowd totally ripped off half her dress revealing her pink underwear. Then she went on to smash all the microphones against the floor, leaving us in ringing feedback. It was the most angry and touching performance I've seen, I practically cried. They completely upstaged NIN, I can't wait to see Hole headling.
